Harsh Training
Animals are trained harshly to perform tricks for circus entertainment and many people are unaware of the abuse they go through to learn new tricks. In the article “Circuses” by Michelle Sherrow a blogger for PETA (a well know corporation of people who are against animal cruelty), she explains to us the measures trainers will go to while training circus animals.
Trainers use whips, tight collars, electric prods, and other harsh tools to get the animals to perform. Many people don’t know that animals perform tricks not because they want to but because they're afraid of what will happen if they don't which is often physical punishment. For these circus animals there is no positive reinforcement only various extremes of punishment and deprivation. Circuses can get away with about anything when it comes to abusing these animals and this is mainly because no government agency monitors training sessions.

I came across this crucial video produced by the organization PETA that demonstrates how harsh circus animals are treated. There are elephants, which are shown being hit by steel tools, whips, and electric pods. Animals are also shown in small tight cages that they hardly fit in where they are kept while traveling. In one scene there is a tiger being dragged on the floor, which looks unconscious. Another tiger is being slapped across the face by its own trainer. Roadside zoos poorly take care of the older apes that are too old to perform and their living conditions are shown in this video. This video shows clips of undercover video footage of animal training sessions where elephants are shocked with electric prods and beaten with bull hooks. This video demonstrates that the entertainment business is no pleasant place for an animal to live in. Most people don’t think about what happens behind the scenes when animals are not performing and are unaware of how they are physically abused.

Note: Extreme measures are taken by trainers in order to train circus animals to perform tricks; society calls it entertainment but I call it abuse!!!
